MS. Amy Smith

CHURCH MUSICIAN/ORGANIST

Amy comes to Christ Church Episcopal, after serving as organist and pianist at Green Valley Presbyterian Church from 2013- 2021. Prior to that, she served as Director of Music at Christ Lutheran Church and she has a passion for playing for worship services.  Her journey as an organist began 25 years ago, with her first church job as organist at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, and she went on to serve as an organist for Catholic, Lutheran, LDS (Mormon), Jewish, and Presbyterian congregations.  It is a thrill for her to join Christ Church, during a milestone year in her career!  She of course, has her college professors to thank for showing her the path to get here.  She was blessed to be able to study applied organ with Dr. Paul Hesselink (a former Christ Church organist), and applied piano with Professor Carol Stivers.  Together they gave her the tools and training she would need to begin her journey to learn and grow in performing music, and they also inspired her to become an instructor.  She is currently in her 30th year as a piano and organ instructor, teaching students of all ages and abilities.  She has also served on the board of the Las Vegas Music Teachers Association as a competition chairperson, Vice President of Programs, and now President.  She comes to Christ Church Episcopal joined by her husband Michael, and son Aaron.
